Cindy Chamberlin-Eastwood & Ted Vanderlaan: Making Church a Safe Place

In this presentation, Cindy Chamberlin-Eastwood and Ted Vanderlaan discuss the importance of addressing clergy sexual abuse within the church and the need for prevention and education. They share their experiences with The Hope of Survivors, an advocacy and education group for victims and families of clergy sexual abuse. They discuss the challenges of implementing change, the importance of apologies and accountability, as well as the impact of abuse on survivors, and the need for cultural shifts within the church. They also talk about the importance of boundaries, education, and creating a culture of safety and accountability. Frankly, this is a hard topic, but it is so important to be aware of these issues and take steps in your church to make it a safe space for the most vulnerable among us.
